Feats
How high? How fast? How strong?
These are a few numbers, reminders of how good one can be...
Jump over 7 feet (2.13m) high.
Run 100 meters in about 10 seconds, or 200 meters in about 20 seconds, or a mile in less than 4 minutes.
Lift a bit over 1,000 pounds (457 kg).
Numbers from the records of dedicated athletes. Year after year, records that were thought impossible to beat are rewritten. Year after year, from all over the world, individuals meet the challenges, taking things further.
Some call it stick-to-it-iveness. Good a name as any. After all, names don't change things.
Many places to go for the details: The USA records page at the USA Track & Field web site; the world records page at the IAAF (International Amateur Athletic Federation) web site; and the Olympic records from the official website of the Olympic Movement.
